De RX100 VII biedt een toonaangevende 357 brandpuntsvlakfasedetectie-AF-punten en 425 contrastdetectie-AF-punten. Dankzij een nieuw geoptimaliseerde lensaandrijving wordt bovendien 's werelds snelste 0,02 sec AF-acquisitietijd gerealiseerd. Een grote sprong voorwaarts in AF / AE-trackingprestaties tijdens continu-opnamen betekent dat de camera AF / AE-berekeningen tot 60 keer per seconde uitvoert en snel bewegende acties van 20 fps vastlegt met AF / AE-tracking, zodat elk moment wordt opgenomen met een snelle en nauwkeurige focus.

Bovendien realiseert de beeldsensor opnamen zonder verduistering voor een volledig livebeeld, zelfs bij continu-opnamen met 20 fps; dezelfde ervaring als de Alpha 9. De RX100 VII introduceert ook een nieuwe aandrijfmodus, Single Burst Shooting, voor het maken van de perfecte high-speed opname met maximaal 90 fps in JPEG / RAW-formaat met behulp van de anti-vervorming Luik. Met Single Burst Shooting kan de fotograaf snel bewegende actie kadreren en fotograferen alsof hij een enkele opname maakt, maar de camera levert in feite zeven foto's gemaakt met 90 fps, 60 fps of 30 fps, zodat de gebruiker het perfecte moment kan selecteren.

Voor het eerst in een compactcamera introduceert de RX100 VII geavanceerde real-time tracking en real-time Eye AF-mogelijkheden. Real-time Tracking maakt gebruik van het nieuwste algoritme van Sony, inclusief op kunstmatige intelligentie gebaseerde objectherkenning om ervoor te zorgen dat onderwerpen met uitstekende nauwkeurigheid kunnen worden vastgelegd, zelfs via het aanraakscherm op het achterscherm. Real-time Eye AF, de nieuwste versie van Sony's veelgeprezen Eye AF-technologie, maakt gebruik van op A.I. gebaseerde objectherkenning om ooggegevens in realtime te detecteren en te verwerken.
